In a similar yet somewhat different but common case scenario, a person suffers a mishap that is accompanied by burns. While waiting for emergency medical treatment, someone at the scene of the accident can perform a number of important tasks. They can clear away evidence that can be quickly identified as the burning heals. They can assist a forensic technician with understanding the nature of the accident and helping to establish the degree of fault that should be attributed to the victim.
Fire and cold spray are encountered during the recovery process, but because the scene is very wet and/or smoky, it’s difficult to properly identify which elements of the scene are the least damaging. Infrared Thermal Imaging provides an effective way to determine which areas are the most crucial and require the most attention and can also help to confirm that, in order to be certain, fire suppression measures need to be applied. For example, if the fire is so hot that it melts some of the concrete in the area, it can cause damage to the integrity of the foundation, or to the structure.
When working in a potentially hazardous environment, it’s important to be able to manage the level of risk associated with fire suppression. A complete assessment of the temperature and level of combustion in an area is extremely important, as well as the removal of all combustible materials. While some areas may seem completely unimportant, a preliminary inspection can reveal that there are flames raging in the basement and that the basement walls could crumble if they’re not properly supported.
Detecting thermal imaging in these types of situations is a critical part of the process of working safely in a compromised or dangerous environment. Detecting the presence of excessive amounts of hot gases or light caused by fire may also be a great help when firefighters arrive and can allow them to better prepare the area for recovery.
